Mosley VS Berto: Berto Withdraws

It’s official. The Mosley vs Berto fight is off.

Haitian-American boxer, Andre Berto withdrew today from his fight against Shane Mosley, scheduled for 30 January 2010.

The undefeated boxer and World Boxing Council welterweight champion said that, due to the catastrophic earthquake that just hit his home country of Haiti, he would not be able to train properly for the biggest fight of his career.

The fight between Mosley vs Berto is off, at least for now.

But, this recent turn of events might just open up the possibility of a mega fight between Shane Mosley and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

With Mayweather Jr. scouting for a worthy opponent for his next big Pay-Per-View event after the Pacquiao vs. Mayweather epic flop, a Mayweather vs Mosley fight would definitely make sense, specially seeing how both fighters are represented by Golden Boy Promotions.

In fact, promoters are already scrambling to work things out between Shane Mosley and Floyd Mayweather Jr. and the likelihood of the fight between Mosley and Mayweather are very high.

Can Mosley Survive Berto’s Speed and Power?

January 2010 is gearing up for a mega event boxing fans all over the world are madly anticipating. The superfight between Shane Mosley and Andre Berto on Saturday, 30th January, 2010 at Mandalaya Bay in Las Vegas will have all their eyes for 12 rounds of boxing excitement, as Shane Mosley and Andre Berto face each other in a WBA and WBC welterweight unification title bout.

Shane Mosley truly holds an amazing career. At 38, he has bagged all the international boxing titles in his pocket and is a living legend of boxing. This January, he will face Andre Berto, 12 years younger that him. In Mosley’s illustrious professional boxing career of 20 years, perhaps this will be the very first time he faces such a young, hungry and powerful contender.

Indeed, Andre Berto also has an impressive boxing record. He is a powerful puncher and the most promising pugilist in boxing these days. Like Mosley he faces squarely his opponents with precision, speed and determination. Moreover, he has quick hand speed, power and is physically slightly bigger than Mosley. At 26 years, Berto throws a serious challenge to Sugar Shane. With his athletic figure and super speed he can truly wreak havoc in the ring against Mosley or any other opponent.

Will Shane Mosley he be able to survive from Berto’s lethal punches and retain his supremacy over the rising superstar? This January the Mosley vs Berto fight is certainly going to be one not to be missed by boxing fans.

At 38, Does Shane Mosley Still Have What It Takes to Take Down Berto?

Shane Mosley is one of boxing’s most respected and recognizable figures. He has had so far an amazing career most boxers can only dream of. He’s defeated great fighters of the likes of de la Hoya and Collazo. He’s won World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Coucil (WBC) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) titles over the span of a very successful professional boxing career.

But like all good things, is Mosley’s journey coming to an end? At 38 years old, does Shane Molsey still have what it takes to take down Andre Berto, a young, hungry and undefeated 26 year old professional boxer?

shane-mosley-pic-10 The answer is a big ‘yes!’

Firstly, let’s look at something Mosley and Berto have in common: Luis Collazo.

On 10 February 2007, Shane Mosley took on Luis Collaza in a 12 round WBC interim welterweight title match. Though the match was hardly a breeze for Mosley, he did come out on top with a 12 round unanimous decision.

Almost 2 years later, on 17 January 2009, in a WBC welterweight title fight, Andre Berto also took on Luis Collazo. The Berto vs Collazo fight was one of the best fights of 2009 (see Berto vs Collazo). In that fight, Berto also came out on top like Mosley with a 12 round unanimous decision.

Because of this similar result in fighting against the same opponent, Luis Collazo, it’s fair to say that Mosley is not too old to take down Berto.

Moreover, Mosley has more than 20 professional fights than Berto. He carries more experience in the ring than the young champion Berto and experience counts in the ring, especially in a 12 round fight.

Mosley may be 38 years old. And it is true that in boxing years that may very well be dangerously close to dinosaur age, but Mosley has the experience, the fire and the boxing skills to take down Berto.

In the end, we’ll all have to wait until the Mosley vs Berto fight to know the answer to that question.

The Mosley vs Berto fight is scheduled for 30 January 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mosley VS Berto: The 1st Super Fight of 2010

Today is New Years Eve. Boxing fans around the world are joyously celebrating a decade of amazing boxing fights and fighters of the likes of Mayweathers, Pacquiao, Mosley, Holyfied, Tyson, Hayes, de la Hoya or Klitschko.

But the 2010 New Year is certainly gearing up to be a good one for boxing and boxing enthusiasts. With Mosley VS Berto and Pacquiao VS Mayweather, the first half of 2010 is certainly promising itself to be gigantically epic one.

The Mosley VS Berto fight is not only an important moment for boxing when the old generation faces up-and-coming fighters, it is also the fist super fight of 2010.

As such, the Mosley vs Berto fight is going to powerfully set the tone for the 2010 boxing year. From what’s up on the 2010 boxing schedule (tentative as it may be), the 2010 boxing year is certainly promising itself to be an exciting one.

Mosley VS Berto: Old Guard VS New Bread

At 38 years old, Sugar Shane Mosley is not just “boxing old”, he is also the only survivor of a truly amazing generation of welterweights. Boxers of the likes of de la Hoya, Trinidad and Quartey are all well into their retirements. Yet at 38 years old, Mosley is still taking on one of the best and the youngest welterweights the World Boxing Council has to offer.

On the 30th of January 2010, Shane Mosley will fight undefeated Andre Berto (26 years old).

Berto is not just very young, he is also very hungry. He has a once in a lifetime opportunity to not only claim the WBC and WBA world welterweight unified championship belt, but also to beat one of the sport’s best boxers and put his mark in history.

While the odds really are against Berto claiming the gold, he might just upset expectations. He is after all young, hungry and undefeated.

The Mosley vs. Berto fight is not just the first super fight of 2010 (right before Pacquiao takes on Mayweather), but also possibly represents a changing of the guards.

Andre Berto is an Athlete to Watch in 2010

The first mega fight of 2010 is knocking at our door. The Mosley vs. Berto fight is scheduled to throw two of the best welterweights in the world against each other on 30 January 2010 for a unification world welterweight championship.

For Sugar Shane Mosley, this might just be another run-of-the-mill opportunity to show the world that despite his age (38 years old), he is still just as sweet as he ever was in the ring, especially against a 26 year old.

For Andre Berto, this is the biggest fight of his young life and truly represents a once in a lifetime opportunity to knockout one of boxing’s living legends.

Undefeated in all of his 26 professional fights, this young boxing sensation still has everything to prove. In fact, though much younger than an aging Mosley, Berto is the undisputed underdog in this fight.

But, if this young boxer can repeat some of the magic that he happened against Urango or Collazo, then he might just have what it takes to take down Mosley.

And if he does, he’s definitely be an athlete to watch in 2010, possibly even capable of taking on a Pacquiao vs. Mayweather winner.

Andre Berto vs Luis Collazo

The Andre Berto vs Luis Collazo is arguably one of the best welterweight fights of 2009!

The first round of the Berto vs Collazo fight was a truly exciting one. In round one, Luis Collazo (29 wins – 3 losses) quickly tagged Berto with a hard left punch, stunning the World Boxing Council’s welterweight champion into the ropes.

But, Berto wouldn’t go down that easily. The WBC undefeated welterweight champion rapidly rallied back with a swift combination of well placed punches to end the round with a bang and ultimately win the 12 round fight by decision.

Indeed, the Berto vs Collazo fight was a brilliant execution of boxing precision, speed and determination. For any true boxing fan, this fight is definitely worth seeing before Andre Berto takes on Shane Mosley next month (30 January 2010). Afterall, the Mosley VS Berto fight is only 2 fights away from the Berto vs Collazo fight and Berto’s performance and rapid hands during that fight are powerful messages to Sugar Shane Mosley.
